Choose an AI tool for one content job

Facts checked

Choose an AI content tool by testing the piece you need to write. Give each option the same notes, then check its draft for facts, tone and format. Pick the sample you'd accept with the fewest edits, and hold the choice if none passes your checks.

What's the top AI tool for content marketing?

The right tool for your task is the one that gives you an acceptable sample with the fewest edits. Try each option on the same content job before you decide.

Jasper lists coming up with new content ideas as a use. It also lists content made of words and images. Choose which output you want to test, such as a short service description or an image brief.

Start with a task you can describe in a sentence. If you haven't chosen the work yet, use the one-page task inventory to narrow it down.

Try these steps before you request a sample:

  1. Name the piece you need. Be specific about its format and where you plan to use it.
  2. Name the reader and the question the piece should answer. Keep the test focused on that question.
  3. Gather approved notes for the draft. Mark any detail you still need to confirm.
  4. Write down what would make the sample worth using. Include the facts, tone and format you'll check.
  5. Send the same brief with the same notes to each tool you want to try. Save each draft beside its brief.

Use this blank scorecard for each sample. Score each row as keep, revise or hold, and write the reason beside it. Use keep when the draft meets that check, revise when you can fix it from your notes, and hold when you need more information before judging it.

Example

For a service description, a filled-in row might read:

Check: Reader's question. Requirement: Use our notes to ask for the item, the fault and a photo. Score: Revise. Edit needed: Replace ‘Send more details’ with ‘Tell us which item needs repair, describe the fault and attach a photo.’

Before adding a tool, check whether the job is already covered in your current setup. Use the marketing tool gap sheet to record the missing work.

If the piece is a response to a lead, start with their message. Use the reply-led next-message plan to shape that reply before testing a draft.

How do you talk to AI for content marketing?

Give the AI a clear format, a reader and approved source notes. Say what to leave out and who will check the draft before you use it.

Keep the prompt close to the scorecard. If you want a short service description, ask for that piece alone. Leave a wider campaign plan for a separate task.

Example

Adapt this prompt with your own notes:

Draft a short service description for a customer asking about repairs. Explain what details they should send with a quote request. Use only the approved notes below. Use plain words and short sentences. Don't add prices, dates or claims about repair results. End with a request for the details listed in the notes. List any missing information after the draft.

Keep space below the prompt for your inputs:

  • Approved notes: ______
  • Required format: ______
  • Reader's question: ______
  • Details to leave out: ______
  • Person checking the sample: ______

Read the sample beside those notes. Score the first draft before asking for edits, then save the revised version too. Record which changes you had to request. Don't treat a smooth sentence as enough reason to accept it.

Use this check:

  • Does the sample produce the piece I asked for?
  • Does it answer the reader's question?
  • Can I find support in my notes for each service claim?
  • Has it kept out the details I told it to exclude?
  • What would I need to rewrite myself?
  • Would I accept this version, ask for an edit or stop the test?

Set your trial's acceptance checks before assigning more work. Use the pilot acceptance sheet to record those choices.

Set aside any sample marked hold. Compare the edits needed on the others, and choose only a sample you can check and finish. For broader platform choices, see the best AI workflow automation tools.
